The Thomases Family Endowment Opens a Special Emergency Grant Round

 The Thomases Family Endowment has opened a special emergency grant round dedicated to addressing the mental health needs in Israel resulting from the brutal terrorist attacks on October 7 and the subsequent war. This round is open only to nonprofit organizations working on the ground in Israel in the field of mental health that provide direct support and resources to:

• Individuals taken hostage on October 7 and their families;

• Individuals, with a specific focus on children, who lost immediate family members, and are experiencing acute trauma resulting from the events of October 7 and the ongoing war. This includes children and parents of Fallen IDF Soldiers.

For this round only, we will accept applications from any region in Israel with preference to those located in our Partnership Region of Akko & Matte Asher.

For organizations that already receive funding from our endowment, please note, if you are awarded emergency funding this will not affect your ability to apply for a grant 12 months from the last time you were awarded a non-emergency grant.

Important Notes
1. Applications are due via email to [email protected] by 11:59pm on November 18, 2025. No extensions will be given.
2. Organizations that currently receive a direct allocation from the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation and/or funding from the Social Venture Fund of the Jewish Funders Network are not eligible to apply.
3. Organizations will be notified of the committee’s decision by the end of December 2025.
4. We have $30,000 available to grant in this round and our grants to organizations working in Israel usually range from $2,000-15,000/year. Please keep all of this in mind in terms of entering a realistic “Amount Requested” on the application below.
5. For organizations without a United States 501(c)(3) determination, please see #3 in the required attachments list below.
6. If funding is granted, a progress report is required to be emailed to [email protected] 9 months after the date on the grant check. This is separate from any reporting requirements to JFNA. No reminders of this
requirement will be given and the committee will not entertain future grant requests until a report is submitted. The report should be 1-3 pages total and include the following information:
• Organization name and project title.
• Narrative addressing progress, updates and any changes to the program/project since the grant was made including successes and/or setbacks.
• An updated accounting of the total program/project with an explanation of any changes from the submitted project budget.
