Endowment Applications

The Youngstown Area Jewish Foundation offers multiple endowments for individuals and non-profit organizations.

The Stanley Engel Fund to Benefit People assists local Jewish residents in need. Applications for $250+ can be made for college tuition, transportation, medical, and utility bills.

Andrew L. Lipkin Tikkun Olam Grant

Andrew L. Lipkin, the third Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Chief Executive Officer, has been a pivotal figure in the fight against antisemitism and hate for over 40 years. His work in the Jewish professional world has been marked by his role as a coalition builder, advocate, and the living embodiment of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world in Hebrew). 

In honor of his lifelong commitment, the Andrew L. Lipkin Tikkun Olam Fund has been established to continue Andrew's legacy. The fund provides up to $1,000 to local nonprofit organizations engaged in initiatives to combat antisemitism and all forms of hate.

Sam Kooperman Endowment

For camp scholarships and study in Israel.

The Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation

During his lifetime, Irwin Thomases was generous to both the Jewish and secular communities. He created this endowment so that upon his death his philanthropic values, including ensuring a Jewish presence in the general community, would live on. It was his hope to better the world in which we all live. The Endowment seeks to promote a spirit of tzedakah.

There are three application deadlines each year - January 15, May 15 and September 15.  

To be considered for funding please complete the appropriate application, linked below, in its entirety and email it, along with the requested attachments, to: ccampesi@jewishyoungstown.org . Incomplete applications and/or those not using the application format provided will not be considered.

The Penner Family Endowment

During their lifetimes, David and Benita Penner were generous to both the Jewish and secular communities. The purpose of this endowment is to pursue tikkun olam (repairing the world) by breaking the cycle of poverty through enhancing Early Childhood Education. This age range was defined, by the donors, as birth to starting kindergarten.

Applications are due by May 24 each year.
